Natural and Logical Consequences

Teach responsibility through consequences connected to choices. Workshop exercises: 1) List three common behavior problems. 2) Identify a natural consequence where safe. 3) Design a logical consequence where a natural one is unsafe or impractical. 4) Check each consequence for dignity, fairness, and teachability.

Never allow a dangerous natural consequence simply to teach a lesson. Safety comes first; consequences should not humiliate or frighten children.
