Reframing the Setback
Practice balanced thinking after difficulties. Workshop exercises: 1) Write a discouraging thought. 2) Ask what evidence supports and challenges it. 3) Write a more balanced statement. 4) Choose one constructive action.
Do not replace realistic concerns with unrealistic positive statements.
Celebrate Progress
Help teens notice improvement instead of demanding perfection. Workshop exercises: 1) Choose one area of growth. 2) Compare where you started with where you are now. 3) Identify what helped. 4) Choose the next small milestone and a healthy way to celebrate.
Progress may be uneven. Encourage persistence without perfectionism.
Gratitude Toward People
Increase appreciation in relationships. Workshop exercises: 1) Choose three people who have helped you. 2) Write specifically what each did. 3) Thank one person directly. 4) Reflect on how appreciation affected you.
Do not pressure teens to express gratitude toward someone who has harmed them.
