Responding to Big Emotions

Give families a plan for anger, fear, disappointment, and overwhelm. Workshop exercises: 1) Identify common escalation patterns. 2) Create a calm-down menu for adults and children. 3) Practice one grounding or breathing exercise. 4) Plan a later conversation after calm returns.

Big feelings are not bad behavior by themselves. Set limits on harmful actions while teaching acceptable ways to express emotion.
